The golden age of children’s literature

A.A. Milne is quite simply one of the most beloved and enduring authors of the golden age of children’s literature – best known for his creation of the iconic, loveable yellow bear Winnie-the-Pooh and his band of loyal friends. Piglet, Christopher Robin, Eeyore, Tigger, Owl, Rabbit, and the other residents of Hundred Acre Wood.

Recognised for his talents as a humorous writer at a young age, Milne’s career took a logical step in the early 1900s, just after leaving Cambridge University, when he became an assistant editor at Punch magazine. With a natural gift for the whimsical, Milne was laying the groundwork for his later success as a children’s author.

The creation of Winnie-the-Pooh

It was in 1926 that his most famous creative enterprise was born. Winnie-the-Pooh, inspired by his son, Christopher Robin Milne, and his collection of nursery toys – who would become the genesis for the characters we know and love today. Alongside E.H. Shephard’s beautiful illustration, Milne’s depictions of friendship, childhood and the power of imagination have been the driving spark behind our Winnie-the-Pooh sculpture collection  –  and we’re immensely proud of each creation in our range.
